TNT Expatriate Lifestyle Charity Golf Open 2011

The TNT –Expatriate Lifestyle Charity 2011 open was held at the prestigious Royal Selangor Golf Club on 20 May 2011 and was attended by the best amateur expatriate golfers, who had a great time playing on one of the best courses in the country.

The day which consisted of a gross and net competition along with longest drive, hole-in-one and closest to the pin was filled with excitement 60 of the best amateur expatriate golfers battled it out for the first spot. Nathan Hauser won the championship and took home a great trophy , two business class tickets by Etihad Airways ,a bottle of Glenmorangie and a fantastic holiday by AsiaWebDirect. Geoff Mclaws scored a Hole in One and took home a Peugeot 207!

The tournament raised RM40,000 , which was presented to TNT and Expatriate Lifestyle’s charities of choice: the Rumah Nur Salam, Precious Children’s’ Home and Puchong Perdana Centre.

The tournament also gave 30 under privileged children the opportunity to visit the golf club and enjoy a great lunch and engage in fun and games with ‘uncle Cha Cha” the clown.

Happy with the success of this tournament, Mr. Gerry Power (MD of TNT Express Worldwide (M) Sdn Bhd) and Mr. Graham Paling (MD of Mongoose Publishing – publishers of Expatriate Lifestyle magazine) are already looking to the future with the advent of a third charity open: ‘Where else can you find the cream of amateur expatriate golfers, playing on a first-class course, winning some amazing prizes and help deserving charities , all at the same time?”

All this wouldn’t have been possible without the aid of the sponsors and we would like to heartily thank the efforts of the Royal Selangor Golf Club, Etihad Airways, Peugeot, Titoni, AsiaWebDirect,Biotherm, Ralph Lauren, CityGolf, Heineken, Gatorade, Volvic and Putrajaya Marriott.

About the Charities
Rumah Nur Salam provides a safe and healthy environment to all the children in the Chow Kit area. Over 400 children are currently enrolled at Rumah Nur Salam. Each day about 50 to 100 children will visit the centre. Most of the children are originally from Chow Kit and come from one-parent homes. Many of them are the children of sex workers or drug addicts.

Precious Children’s Home
currently houses 32 children ranging from 4 to 18 years old. They are housed at 2 separate homes. The main home has 14 kids aged 4 to 12 and there are 18 kids aged 13 to 18 in a second home. The children come from various races and backgrounds. They all attend school, from kindergarten to secondary school. These children are mostly orphans or are from the streets or whose parents are drug addicts, alcoholics, undergoing rehabilitation program or in prison.

The Puchong Learning Centre is a safe haven for underprivileged children and orphans living with relatives in extreme poverty. Aiming to provide the children with at least 1 meal a day, the center is 100% dependant on volunteers for both material resources and physical. On a weekly basis, regular volunteers teach basic English and Maths in hopes that the children will be able to at least hold a simple position in the retail scene instead of being left to roam the streets as most of these children fare rather poorly in school and are often left behind.
